【作家メッセージ】
刺繍と彫⾦を作っております菊地曉⼦です。
刺繡はただ⽩が好きで、⽩の⿇布に⽩の刺繡糸アブローダー16番を使い、
タペストリーを、作っています。
カットワークが好きで、寿など⽂字を組み合わせています。
刺繡を始めると、段々重たくなっていき、進んでいる実感がします。
最後にカットして軽くなると、終わりに近づいていると、また嬉しくなります。
彫⾦を始めたきっかけは、⾒知らぬ⼥性達のお喋りからです。
「この指輪作ったよ。」と聞こえました。それから始めました。
銀は、たたいていると表情が徐々に変わってきます。最後にはあの鈍いあまいあの輝きになります。
酸化して⿊ずみますが、「忘れずに磨いてね︕」と、⾔ってるように思えます。

【Message from the artist】
My name is Akiko Kikuchi, and I work with embroidery and metal engraving.
I’ve always loved the color white. That’s why I create tapestries using white embroidery thread (No. 16 Abroder) on white linen fabric. I especially enjoy cutwork embroidery, and often include characters like kotobuki—a symbol of longevity and celebration—in my designs.
As I stitch, the fabric grows heavier in my hands, giving me a sense of steady progress. Then, when I begin the final cutwork and the piece becomes lighter again, I feel a quiet joy, knowing it’s almost complete.
My journey into metal engraving began by chance—after overhearing a stranger say, “I made this ring myself.” That one comment sparked everything.
When I work with silver, I love how its expression gradually changes with each tap of the hammer. In the end, it takes on a soft, quiet glow.
Even as it tarnishes with time, it feels as if the silver is gently reminding me:
“Don’t forget to polish me.”
