\u3010Message from the artist\u3011
\nI create pottery in Ibaraki City, Osaka Prefecture.
\nMy work can be broadly categorized into three types.<\/p>\n

The first type is new pottery made with local clay.
\nThe clay from the Toyokawa area of Ibaraki City comes from the Osaka Formation, a clay layer widely deposited across the Senri Hills. Rich in iron content, it produces pieces with a distinctive, rustic charm and a brownish hue.
\nWhile most of my previous works have been unglazed, this time I will also be exhibiting glazed pieces.
\nPlease feel free to pick them up and take a closer look.<\/p>\n

The second type is glazed ware.
\nThese are primarily functional tableware pieces, using glazes such as Oribe glaze\u2014associated with Furuta Oribe, who has ties to Ibaraki City\u2014as well as transparent glazes and others featuring natural surface crackles as design accents.<\/p>\n

The third type is work fired in a traditional climbing kiln using wood.
\nFor five days and nights, the kiln is continuously fired with red pine wood.
\nFlames run through the kiln from the firebox to the chimney, striking the surfaces of the pieces, where clay, ash, and fire blend to create a finish that only wood-firing can produce.<\/p>\n

This year, in line with the overall theme \u201cNew Forms: Creating for the Future,\u201d
\nI focused on developing universally designed tableware for daily use.
\nI believe this will be an important direction for future craftsmanship.
