Fukuju\u2019s Sake Brewing \u2014 In Honor of Earth Day (April 22)<\/strong><\/p>\n

Every year, April 22 is celebrated as Earth Day.
\nSince its inception in 1970, Earth Day has grown into a global movement involving more than a billion people across over 190 countries, all coming together to reflect on the future of our planet.
\nToday, our Earth faces numerous environmental challenges, with climate change at the forefront.
\nAs a sake brewery, we ask ourselves: What can we do to help create a sustainable future?
\nThis question led us to establish our Green Initiative and set clear environmental goals toward 2030.
\nOur efforts focus on three key areas to promote sustainable sake brewing:
\n\u2022 Realizing a carbon-free society<\/em><\/strong>
\n\u2022 Supporting a circular economy<\/em><\/strong>
\n\u2022 Promoting a society in harmony with nature<\/em><\/strong>
\nOne of the essential ingredients in sake brewing is rice.
\nHowever, climate change is making it increasingly difficult to reliably source high-quality sake rice.
\nFor us, securing sake rice is vital to the continuation of our craft.
\nThat\u2019s why we are actively working to reduce environmental impact and protect the future of rice cultivation in sustainable ways.

\nTowards Carbon-Neutral Sake Brewing<\/strong>
\nSake production requires a significant amount of energy.
\nIn 2022, we made major changes to reduce our energy footprint:
\n\u2022 We switched the gas used for steaming rice (Scope 1) to carbon-neutral city gas<\/strong><\/em>.
\n\u2022 We also transitioned the electricity used for temperature control and other processes (Scope 2) to 100% renewable energy<\/strong> <\/em>(hydroelectric power).
\nThanks to these measures, we achieved net-zero CO\u2082 emissions in our sake brewing process.
\nThat same year, we released Fukuju Junmai EcoZero, the world\u2019s first carbon-neutral sake.
\nToday, all of our sake is brewed in a net-zero emission environment.

\nPioneering a Circular Brewing System<\/strong>
\nTo support a circular economy, we\u2019ve introduced ICT-driven agriculture<\/strong><\/em>, including the use of drones.
\nWe also cultivated Yamada Nishiki sake rice using \u201cKobe Harvest<\/strong><\/em>,\u201d a recycled phosphorus fertilizer made from Kobe\u2019s wastewater treatment system.
\nThis rice became the foundation for our circular-concept sake: KANNA.

\nCertified Organic Sake that Protects Biodiversity<\/strong>
\nIn 2025, we took a new step toward a society in harmony with nature by releasing the first sake of our new organic line \u201cFukuju Mirai e no Itteki<\/strong><\/em>\u201d (literally, \u201ca drop towards the future\u201d). This sake is brewed with 100% Hyogo-grown JAS-certified organic Koshihikari rice.
\n\u201cJAS Organic Certification<\/em><\/strong>\u201d is a rigorous national standard awarded to food products grown utilizing the power of nature, without the use of synthetic fertilizers or pesticides.
\nThis initiative also supports biodiversity conservation.
\nIn addition, we also obtained JAS Organic Certification as a brewery, further enabling us to pursue environmentally responsible sake brewing.
